the day the cemetery bursts colour

Stop, take time, remember…

Remember so that you can walk on.

The grey sky weeps down on us. ‘Tis cold and windy, this first day of November. But the cemetery bursts colour. Here in our part of the world this day is called Toussaint – All Saints Day.

Tradition calls us all to stop and close shop. Take time and remember those precious people who made the journey with us but have gone on ahead. Celebrate the good heritage they have left us – their perseverance, their courage and their faith, to give hope for our journey. With the older and younger generation together, pausing for a moment, a sense of identity and family are strengthened.

This year we also released dear friends and family members to continue on. Their lives were a gift to us, a cloud of witnesses as Saint Paul once said.

A short tribute to some of them can be read in the Articles section of the blog. Some have been written in Afrikaans as a gift to their families.
