Why I love Project Runway

For me, everything stops when Project Runway is on the television. And when I can’t watch it, I record it to enjoy it later.

It’s an American reality series where a group of fashion designers compete for a grand prize. Every week they receive a challenge to design clothes. Every week one person gets voted out of the competition until only three are left to prepare a complete fashion collection for New York Fashion Week. And then of cause, only one winner.

I’m not into fashion myself. My sister would be the one as she’s studied it. Clothes and jewelry have always been an important part of her life. She inherited the genes from grandmother who made clothes and enjoyed jewelry. As kids, we would sit on her bed in front of the big mirror on the dressing table and try on all the jewelry from her green jewelry bag.

Back to Project Runway…

For me, this is what creativity is all about.

A bunch of passionate people using their gift and practicing the creative muscle for a few weeks in a row.

This expression of art is a language that communicates as these designers have to ‘read the times’, interpret and express.

They are courageous, stepping out and are willing to be seen and criticized for their designs, giving their best shot.

Top performance is not a daily given. There are good days and bad days. They push through, not giving up.

They are focused.

They work hard. The designs have to be done within a theme, time frame and budget.

They have to work with clients and models, think of hair, colour, make-up, accessories.

When disaster strikes, they have to think fast, re-create, make do.

And then the most amazing creations come down that runway…!

This program is a personal inspiration to keep going, practicing my muscle, developing my gift.
