Holiday
(5 minute unedited writing)
Holi-day, holi-day.
What is a holy day? A holy day was the day after creation when the Artist put his brush down, gave a step back, looked and said, “It is very good”. He wiped the hands and smiled satisfied. Then he walked off and closed the door. Time to rest.
Time to rest. Rest in time. Rest from time.
But we collect colour brochures that tempt with prices and pretty pictures. An unforgettable rest. To fly off to the sun and sea. It promises the time of our life!
We come home with sunburn, overdraft and weariness.
For the teacher and me? Time together, sleep, read, hike – not too far away. We eat breakfast buffet and buy dinner at Aldi’s – grapes, salad and a chocolate bar. We listen to the rain on the windows and read a novel. Rest. Taste, see, feel, listen close by. Holiday. Holi-day. Thank you for the rest.
